A domain name becomes your address and the address of your business on the internet, so it is important that it is effective and connected to your activity, company name, and/or brand(s). You can check whether the domain name you want is available through the WHOIS service. If the desired domain name is already taken, check whether similar names that are still suitable for you are available for registration.

To register your desired and available domain name, you need to choose an authorized registrar – a company whose pricing policy and service portfolio best suit your needs. Most RNIDS authorized registrars allow you to complete the entire domain registration process online. Check the list of authorized registrars.

When registering a domain, you need to provide your authorized registrar (AR) with accurate and complete information, which must always be kept up to date. It is particularly important that your email address is correct and current, as it is crucial for all future domain-related operations. If any data changes, you are required to update it with your authorized registrar within 15 days from the date of the change.

It is important that the registrant is you (if the domain is registered for personal use) or your company (if the domain is registered for business use), as only then do you have full rights and the ability to manage the domain name.

In addition to the registrant’s data, you must also provide information about the administrative and technical contacts, as well as at least two DNS servers, so that the domain name is active (visible) on the internet.

The amount of the fee and the method of payment for registering a domain name are determined by the accredited registrar you have chosen. Accredited registrars independently set prices for end users, taking into account market conditions and competitors’ offers. Only after the payment is completed can you consider the desired domain name secured for your use.

Once the domain name you registered with the registrar is entered into the RNIDS database, you will receive a notification at the email address provided during registration. The notification will include the data you submitted and a link to verify your email address. It is important to verify your data, i.e., click on the link sent to you within 20 days; otherwise, the domain name will become inactive.

The email address is the key piece of information representing you before RNIDS. Important service information from RNIDS will be sent to this address, and it is also required for any changes related to the domain name (other data updates, changing the accredited registrar, etc.).

Until the payment is made, the registrar has no obligations toward you, and the desired domain name will not be reserved for you.

The registrant, through their accredited registrar, submits a request to RNIDS to renew the registration of a domain name. The total period for which a domain name can be registered cannot exceed 10 years. The renewed registration period begins immediately after the expiration of the current registration.

When the registration period expires, the domain name becomes inactive. The registrant has a grace period of 30 days to renew the domain name registration. If the registration is not renewed within this period, the domain name will be deleted from the National Internet Domain Registry.

If the registrant renews the registration within the grace period, the renewed registration period starts from the expiration date of the previous registration.

The registrant has the right to change the accredited registrar (AR) for domain names they have registered. The change of AR is carried out based on the registrant’s request, using the appropriate authorization procedure, which is detailed in the Procedures for Registration of National Internet Domains.

The domain name transfer involves the registrant, the AR currently responsible for registration services (current AR), and the AR to which the registration services will be transferred (new AR). The transfer process is carried out as follows:

1. The registrant or administrative contact identifies themselves with the current AR and submits a request to create an authorization code for the domain name transfer.
2. The current AR verifies the identity of the requester, the completeness and correctness of the request, and the consent. If the request or consent is incomplete or incorrect, it is returned to the requester for correction. If the request is complete and correct, the current AR submits a transfer request to RNIDS through the Registration System.
3. If the submitted request passes the verification, the Registration System automatically generates an authorization code for the domain transfer, which is emailed to the administrative contact, and the current AR is notified of the sent authorization code.
4. The administrative contact or registrant provides the received authorization code to the new AR as part of the transfer request.
5. The new AR enters the authorization code into the Registration System, where its validity is automatically checked. If the code passes verification, the change is executed in the Registry Database. From that moment, the domain name is considered transferred, and the new AR becomes responsible for the registration services for that domain.
6. RNIDS, through the Registration System, sends information about the successful domain transfer to the administrative contact, the new AR, and the current AR.

If the current AR does not provide the registrant with the authorization code for the domain transfer, the procedure is as follows:

1. The registrant or administrative contact identifies themselves with the new AR and submits a request for transferring the domain to another AR.
2. The new AR verifies the identity of the requester, the completeness, and correctness of the request. If incomplete or incorrect, it is returned for correction. If complete and correct, the new AR submits the transfer request to RNIDS via the Registration System.
3. If the request passes verification, the current AR receives a request to create an authorization code for the transfer. If the current AR accepts, the Registration System automatically generates the code and emails it to the administrative contact or registrant. If the current AR does not respond within 7 days, the request is sent to RNIDS for approval. RNIDS generates the authorization code and sends it to the administrative contact or registrant.
4. The administrative contact or registrant provides the authorization code to the new AR as part of the domain transfer request.
5. The new AR enters the authorization code into the Registration System, which checks its validity. If the code passes, the change is executed in the Registry Database. The domain is then considered transferred, and the new AR becomes responsible for its registration services.
6. RNIDS sends information about the successful transfer to the administrative contact, the new AR, and the current AR.

A change of registrant can occur based on:

• A request from the registrant
• A decision by the Commission for the Resolution of Disputes regarding the registration of national internet domains
• A final and binding decision of a competent court

In the case of a registrant request, the request to change the registrant is submitted to RNIDS through the Authorized Registrar (AR) responsible for the registration of that domain. RNIDS carries out the transfer of the domain registration immediately, and no later than 60 working days from the receipt of a complete request. Upon completion, the previous registrant steps out, and the new registrant enters into a contractual relationship with RNIDS, fully accepting the General Terms and Conditions and acquiring all rights and obligations of the previous registrant arising from that contractual relationship.

The process of changing the registrant is carried out according to the procedure detailed in the Procedures for the Registration of National Internet Domains.

If any of the registration data of a domain name changes, the registrant is obliged, no later than 15 days from the date of the change, to submit a request to RNIDS for updating the domain registration data through their Authorized Registrar (AR).

RNIDS may, independently or in cooperation with the AR, verify the accuracy of the registration data at any time. If it is determined that the domain registration data is incorrect or incomplete, RNIDS will require the registrant, through the AR, to correct the registration data. If the registrant fails to respond to this request and does not update the registration data, the domain name will become inactive. Data is considered incorrect or incomplete if, during the verification process, it is unequivocally established and the registrant does not make the required updates within the specified period.

If a proper request is submitted, RNIDS is obliged to implement the change of domain registration data immediately, but no later than 60 working days from the receipt of the request by the AR.

The change of domain registration data is considered completed once RNIDS records this change in the National Internet Domain Registry.

RNIDS has the right to change the domain registration data based on a final court decision, a decision of a competent alternative dispute resolution body, or if the change is necessary to maintain the operational stability of the internet.

Domain name registration is terminated if any of the following occur:

• The registrant submits a Request for Termination of Domain Name Registration.
• The registrant does not renew the registration within the 30-day grace period after expiration.
• The Commission for Resolution of Disputes regarding national internet domain registration issues a decision ordering termination.
• A final decision of a competent court orders the termination of the domain name registration.
• The competent public prosecutor issues an act ordering the termination of the domain name registration.
• RNIDS, through a special procedure, determines unequivocally that the registration data of the domain name are inaccurate or incomplete.
• The registrant loses legal capacity as a rights holder and, within the period set by RNIDS (no less than 15 days), fails to provide proof of legal succession.

For legal entities, i.e., companies on whose behalf the domain is registered, it is important that the following data are kept up to date: business name, registered office address, company identification number or another identifier according to the law of the country of origin, email address, phone number, and the full name or position of the contact person for the legal entity or entrepreneur.

For individuals, it is necessary that the following data are accurate and up to date: full name, residential address, email address, and phone number.

In practice, the following often occurs:

• A third party registers domains on behalf of a company (e.g., builds a website), but over time contact is lost. The company then loses control over domains important for its business.
• A company moves its office but does not update its address in the RNIDS database.
• A company changes its status (e.g., is dissolved), and the registrant does not update the registration data.

These are just some examples that can lead to the following problems:

• Non-updated data constitutes a violation of the General Terms of Registration, meaning the domain may be suspended and potentially deleted. While suspended, access to the website or email using that domain will not be possible until the correct registrant data (for the company or individual) are verified and updated.
• Missed notifications and registration renewal issues. Updated contact information, especially the email address, is essential for receiving notifications from RNIDS and/or the chosen registrar. If the email address is outdated, you may not receive warnings that the domain is about to expire or that there is a security issue, which could result in failing to renew the domain on time and losing it.

The easiest way is to use the WHOIS search on the RNIDS website, or to contact your authorized registrar (the name of the registrar can also be seen in the WHOIS search results).

The WHOIS search results display basic information about the domain status and DNS servers, while the contact details of the company or individual who registered the domain are often not publicly available. This is due to privacy protection:

• Legal entities can activate protection for displaying their data.
• For individuals, the data are not publicly shown.

In such cases, contact your authorized registrar for assistance in verifying or updating the data for your domain name.

If you have updated your company information in the Business Registers Agency (APR), make sure to update it in the RNIDS database as well. If your domain is registered through a company or individual who created your website, transfer the domain to your own company, or to yourself if you are an individual.

You are required to report any changes to your authorized registrar within 15 days, who will update the information in the RNIDS database.
