Internet Governance in Serbia

A cooperation agreement was signed between the Ministry for Telecommunications and the Information Society and RNIDS on 23rd December 2010, which defined the obligations of RNIDS in regard to the status of the organisation, the way in which it was to conduct its primary functions, the transparency of its operations, the guarantee of equality in domain registrations, the guarantee of availability and access to critical elements of Internet infrastructure, as well as steps to be taken by the signatories to the agreement in the event of problems along the way.

The Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications is responsible for laying down policy and strategies for the development of the information society, standards in the area of e-commerce, data protection and information security.

The Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL), as an independent regulatory body, is tasked, among other things, with issuing licences for public fixed-line, mobile and wireless telecommunications networks. In addition, it maintains a register of Internet and VoIP providers.

An accredited registrar is a company or sole trader registered in Serbia who has been granted authority by RNIDS to carry out .RS and .СРБ domain registrations.

Registries of delegated second-level domains

The management of the second-level domains .AC.RS and .АК.СРБ has been delegated to the Academic Network of Serbia (AMRES) and the management of GOV.RS and .УПР.СРБ to the Office for Information Technologies and e-Government (KITeU).

Committee for the Resolution of Disputes Relating to the Registration of National Internet Domains

Disputes relating to registered .RS and .СРБ domains are resolved before a committee of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
