Proposal “.срб” accepted as Cyrillic domain of Serbia

08/11/2010

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) finalized the technical assessment of the proposals submitted by the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) and accepted the label “срб” as the Cyrillic domain of Serbia.

The decision of ICANN that the label “срб” fulfills requirements for the Cyrillic domain of Serbia on the Internet represents the first step in the process of approving the new domain. What needs to be done is to finalize the formal procedure and promote the Cyrillic domain “срб” as the second Internet domain of Serbia.

The entire process of assigning a new domain to the authorized national register lasts between three and six months and, in accordance with the Fast Track process for approving non-Latin domains, ICANN publishes a list of new approved domains every month.

A public discussion on principles to be included in the Rulebook on registering the Cyrillic domain of Serbia on the Internet will be initiated soon. The process of registering the Cyrillic domain is expected to commence in the second half of 2011.
