The Serbian National Internet Domain Name Registry Foundation (RNIDS) has taken a corporate decision to join the RIPE NCC organisation, which manages numerical Internet resources for Eurasia and the Middle East. This decision was taken at the first online session of the Conference of Co-founders, held from 8th to 13th September 2016.
RIPE NCC (Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre) coordinates the forum of European IP networks, and is one of five global regional Internet registries (RIRs), responsible for the territory of Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. The members of the organisation are local Internet registries to whom RIPE allots the IP addresses and AS numbers which are essential for the functioning of the Internet.
In 2015, RNIDS hosted SEE4 RIPE NCC – the regional meeting of network engineers for Southeast Europe, and RIPE NCC has sponsored the Conference of the Republic of Serbia Network Operators’ Group (RSNOG) and SEEDIG 2016 – a meeting on the topic of Internet governance in South Eastern Europe.
By joining this organisation RNIDS will be able to unify all the IP resources it currently uses under its own user account. Membership will also allow RNIDS to develop its own organisational capacities through training and exchange of experiences at seminars and meetings organised by RIPE NCC, and even better partnership in the area of Internet governance in the Southeastern European region.
